Can You Pencil Me In?

6.24.2015

Hello friends! I've been quite busy coloring today and this may come as a surprise to you...with pencils!  I know.  Totally not me since I've been colored with just copic markers.  But there is a new challenge over at Power Poppy by Marcella Hawley - The Blog that's ending in a few days!  The theme is "Can You Pencil Me In?"  Thus, I'm using pencils...simple good old rubber stamping colored pencils. I just love all of Marcella's gorgeous blooms and really don't want to miss out of this challenge fun.

This breathtaking arrangement of blooms is calls Arranging Roses.  I paired it up with the sentiment "Precious and few are friends like you!" from the Gerbera Daisies set because this card is going to our wonderful good neighbors Kerk & Anna.  They're such sweetheart!  Whenever we're away, they would take in our mails, put out our trash and watered our garden for us.   We are very fortunate and so blessed to have them not only as neighbors but also friends.

Layering Technique: The die frame is Spellbinders Nestabilities A2 Card Creator Dies - Divine Eloquence, which I cut out 3x for added depth.  For an easy clean adhesive of each layer, I used Elmer's spray adhesive.

This challenge was truly a challenge for me.  Having just self-taught myself intensively the last 6 months and getting comfortable coloring and blending with only copic markers, I wasn't sure if I was able to pull off with color pencils.   But I figured the basic coloring method should apply to all coloring mediums.  Right?  So I applied the same method I learned coloring with copic to colored this gorgeous blooms with pencils - start with coloring in lightly the entire bloom, go back and filled in the shades (with the same colored pencil) by coloring over and over again until I got the desire shade in mind. Then blend with fingers.

I was truly inspired by this "Can You Pencil Me In?" challenge and hopefully I have inspired you too to pick up and try out a new coloring medium.  Even if it is out of your comfort zone.  Who knows? You might actually get "hook" onto it.

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your day with me.  May you have a wonderful rest of your week!

Background Clouds + Scenic

6.10.2015

Au Revoir friends!  I'm closing my craftroom and heading off for a two weeks family vacation.  But here's a card before I go.

This is my oldie but goodie Sherry T. Designs -A Random Fan Travel Bug rubber stamp.  I have her over a year now and finally get to use her.

HOW I MADE THE BACKGROUND?

First I color this cutie so I have a better idea of how large my layer for the background is going to be. Then to create my background, I begin with the clouds.  For my template, I used the Taylored Expressions - Build a Scene - Rolling Clouds and then outline and colored in with copic marker (B000).  At first I tried stamping with distress ink, but that didn't turned out too well.  That's what the bright blue is on the cloud template.

Next, I outline two hills using the Taylored Expressions - Build a Scene - Rolling Hills with a pencil and then sketch in the road.

After that...bring in the splash of colors!

Color Combo:

cloud: B000
hills: YG00, YG03, YG06, G24, G43, G46
road: N0, N2, N4

Having done the Power Poppy "CUT-IT-OUT" challenge a few weeks ago, I'm hook onto just cutting out everything!  Haha!  So after coloring this gorgeous girl, I SNIP her up and popped her onto the road with foam tape for an added dept.   Notice the gray shadow effect around the image?  This is new technique I discovered from my lamp's light.  You know that's the cool thing about coloring at 11 p.m besides getting bad vision.  Haha.  The lamp light open your vision to a whole new level, allowing you to see what you will likely missed during the day!

Color Combo:

Black Multi-liner
Hair: N0, N2, N4, N6, N8
skin: E0000, E000, E00, RV10
outfit: RV02, RV04, RV10
hat: Y00, Y15, Y18, RV02, RV04
car: B000, BG01, BG13, BG15, N0, N2, N4, N6, RV25, RV29
dog: E31, E35, E47, E50, E57, RV02, RV10, RV13
luggage: BV02, BV11, Y28, Y32, E0000, E50, RV02, RV04, RV10, RV25, RV29

I couldn't resist not adding a touch of humor to this CAS card.  So I hammered in this road sign. Beach or back to the craft-room?  Hmmm...let me think about that!  I think I'll hit the road and take that surprise vacation trip!

And now friends...Au Revoir!  Have a lovely rest of your June wherever you may be.  Smiles & hugs from your truly...
