Studio Time with Catherine + A Challenge

Hello and good afternoon!  I'm a bite late sharing today's project.  I meant to share it earlier in the week but I came down with a nasty cold on Monday.  Joining me this late afternoon is my daughter Catherine (now a 3rd Grader) with her latest artwork and with a challenge for you!  I promise it is a very easy one and very fun too (winking).

Catherine simply love drawing animals and now has added the extinct creatures to her list. This is a Parasaurolophus dinosaur. She also enjoy working with pencils and doesn't like to add colors to her artwork. But over the weekend she surprised me by asking for a water-coloring set. You can imagine the dumbstruck look on my face. So I got her (and her siblings) a simple, inexpensive kid watercoloring set from the supplies section at the grocery store as a starter kit and shared my Canson XL Watercolor Paper 9x12 Pad with her. Truly made her day when she allows to touch my craft supplies. Haha.

So here is her very first water-coloring artwork.  She has been practicing drawing the full body view from a school's How To Draw dinosaurs library book and has originally wanted to color that one up.   But then she realized she drew it too small.   So she started over, drawing out just the head and that what she ended up coloring with.  She accidentally splattered her brush over the painting at the end.  But thought it looked so neat having the random splash of colors there that she decided to splattered on some more.  Haha.  Luckily she was doing it outside.  I think she has discovered a new favorite medium and a new art style!

Catherine's Tip of the Day:
Instead of starting over, just make it work with your mistakes :D

Now for Catherine's challenge...

Here's the guidelines:
  • pick a coloring medium that you have never tried before (crayon, copic, water-coloring, distress inks, etc)
  • create something with it - anything.  It does not have to turn into a finish project.   The key is to get out of your comfort zone and try working with a new coloring medium while having FUN along the way.
  • take a photo of it and...
  • share your creation with us here by uploading into the Inlinkz below.
  • you have until end of this month (September 30th) to upload your creation before the Inlinkz closes.
  • Incentive: 1 surprise gift for all participants - will reveal in October :D
Need some more inspiration? Here is Catherine's 3 years old sister (our very own Princess Sofia the First) with her own take on this new medium coloring challenge :D

We hope you will join us on this Try A New Medium Coloring Challenge. It truly will make our day seeing your beautiful work! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your day with us. May you have a lovely weekend ahead.

Please link up your artwork below

If you run into any trouble with the inlinkz, please let me know in the comment and a way for me to reach you (if you did not enable e-mail reply on your profile) once the issue is fixed.

Oh my goodness Catherine! I just did a mistake and went with it too! I was trying to get the last bit of ink out of my refill bottle and sprayed it on my image!! So I just continued to do just that all over around my image! Awesome work Catherine! You are a much better artist with drawing than I am! Happy Drawing!

Hello, Christina and Catherine! Well I guess your Catherine has taken after her mother! What a talented young lady! Your little Princess Sofia is an inspiration as well! The three of you must have a lot of fun together in the craftroom! Thank you for your fun challenge! It might be hard to find a colouring medium I've not tried before - I've played with all of them that you've listed! Hmmmm, oh wait, just thought of another one I haven't tried! We'll see if I get up the courage to try it!

Dear Catherine, You have us all proud of the artwork that you do! Keep up the good work. We are always excited when we here that you are here. I did the same mistake on my card for the Outlawz group. I will show it to when I can post it. I got ink sprayed on my card so I just sprayed some more all over. Yours looks wonderful. :)
