Fun Starts Wednesday February 1st

1.30.2017

Hello!  I want to pop in to let you know that the fun begins on Wednesday, February 1st right here on my blog.  I will be hosting my very first blog hop in celebration of February's American Heart Month with the Hug a Heart Card Drive.  I am honor to have 7 amazing tender hearted cardmakers joining me for this hop.  We have lots of creative inspirations planned for you with great prize to win along the way.  So please mark your calendar and come join us on Wednesday.

Also, a quick reminder.  We have only 2 weeks left to go with our Hug a Heart Card Drive.  The deadline to send in cards is February 14th.  I hope you will consider sending a card my way to help brighten a heart patient's day this Heart Month.  Even if you only have one card done, please send it in.  That's one child's life that you will be making a HUGE difference in this Heart Month.  Just imagine the huge smile on the child's face when greeted by a sweet card from a total stranger afar.  Your one card will not only let that child knows that someone cares deeply about him or her, but also gives him or her the strength and encouragement to keep on fighting.  Now wouldn't that make you feel good knowing that your one card can make that big of an impact on one child as well the parents?   As a mother myself, nothing bring me greater joy than to see a smile on my children's face.   So please join us in this heartwarming cause and send a card my way TODAY!

If this is your first time learning about the card drive, you can see the complete details about the card donation guidelines (with LOTS more prizes to giveaway) over in my blog post HERE or on this page HERE of my blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  May you have a lovely rest of your day.  See you Wednesday!

You Don't Always Have To Color Up An Image

1.25.2017

Sometimes a stamp set has so much artistic beauty details that to do it justice is to best leave it as is.  Uncolored.  I know.  It sounds like an excuse to not color up an image.  But just take a look at this Power Poppy's Move the Soul clear stamp set by artist and owner of Power Poppy - Marcella Hawley here for example.  Isn't the details in her artwork astonishing?  I have this stamp set for awhile now and finally had a chance to ink it up.

All supplies used for this project is listed in the thumbnails at the end of this post, linked to the shops where I have purchased them from.  If an item becomes unavailable at the purchased shop, I'll do my best to link to other shops that do carry it to save you time from searching around.

To start,  I made my A2 (4.25x5.5) card base using the Recollections heavyweight 110# cream cardstock.  Next I stamped on the biker with Lawn Fawn premium black LICORICE dye ink follow by the "thinking of you" sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Hand Lettered Winter Wishes stamp set.

To complete the card, I stamped a trail of heart in Memento Luxe Love Letter ink with the Simon Says Stamp Tons of Hearts set.

Thanks for stopping by,  May you have a lovely rest of your week.

New freebie Drawing "Heart Panda" + Hug A Heart Card Drive 2017

1.21.2017

Hello!  Thanks for stopping by.  Today's card is a clean & simple one featuring my newest drawing "Heart Panda" along with products from My Favorite Things, Tim Holtz, Taylored Expressions and SugarPea Designs.  This post is also part of the current Hug a Heart Card Drive for heart patients at Nationwide Children's Hospital.  For the complete card donation guidelines (with lots of prize giveaways), please see my blog post HERE or this page HERE on my blog.

All supplies used for this project will be listed in the thumbnail at the end of this post, linked to shops where I purchased them from.  If an item become unavailable at the purchased shop, I will do my best to linked to other shops that do carry it to save you time from searching around.

I started out by creating my A2 (4.25"x5.5") white base card first using Bazzill Marshmallow heavyweight cardstock.  Next, I embossed heart onto a piece of leftover blue cardstock (80#) with the Taylored Expressions' Swiss Hearts and adhered to my base card.

I did not have the right sentiment.  So I created one, "sending you hugs and wishing you a beautiful day!" using picmonkey and saved it as a png file.

Next, in Microsoft Word program, I dragged in the Heart Panda and the sentiment, resize and then printed onto gina K. designs' white layering cardstock.   I color the heart with the red Zig Wink of Stella and just water-colored a light blush to the panda's cheeks with Ranger's distress marker - Spun Sugar.  Next, I added faux stitches to the layer with the SugarPea Designs' Zig Zag Stitched Rectangle SugarCut Dies and the MFT Die-Namics Stitched Scallop Basic Edges 2.

To complete the card, I adhered on hearts leftover from previous projects and colored them red with the Zig Wink of Stella.

RECEIVE "HEART PANDA" AS FREEBIE

I am offering my "Heart Panda" drawing as freebie to everyone that send in cards for the Hug a Heart Card Drive.  There will be other prizes as well, including a $50 Simon Says Stamp gift certificate grand prize drawing.  For the complete details about the card donation guidelines, please see my blog post HERE or this page HERE on my blog.

I hope that you will be able to join me in this heartfelt cause. The cards you donate will not only brighten a heart patient’s day during this Heart Month, but will positively impact that child’s life beyond what you can imagine.

Way To Use Your Leftover Scraps + Hug A Heart Card Drive 2017

1.17.2017

Hello and happy Tuesday!  It is so nice to be back and sharing projects with you again.  For my project today I want to share one way you can use your leftover scraps of cardstock to create a quick and super FUN kid's card.  This technique is great for other card types too.  Not just kid's card.  Also, today's card was made for the Hug a Heart Card Drive.  For  the complete details about the card drive, you can see it on this page HERE on my blog or in my blog post HERE.

For supplies use in this project, please see the thumbnail at the end of this post, linked to the shop where I purchased them from.  If an item is unavailable at the purchased shop, I will try my best to link to other shops that do carry it to save you time from searching around.

I started by creating my A2 (4.25"x5.50") base card first using the gina K. designs' Turquoise Sea heavyweight cardstock.  Next I die cut out the cloud from the MFT Stitched Cloud Edges onto the gina K. designs' white layering cardstock and adhered that to the base card.

I combined leftover strips of cardstock from old projects with the Simon Says Stamp Nested Hearts wafer dies to create the rainbow heart balloon.  Since this card is going to a young child, I thought it would be fun to add googly eyes to the balloon   I couldn't stop there.  I was having too much fun.  So I adhere a small red heart on for the nose and piped in a smile with Ranger enamel accent - white.  How CUTE is that!

The "Thinking of You" sentiment is from the Clearly Besotted Brushed Greetings II.  I stamped it with the Lawn Fawn Black Licorice premium dye ink.

To complete the card, I drew on the string for the balloon with Copic multiliner pen, colored with Wink of Stella - red and pop a small pearl embellishment to the center of the bow.

One last look at the card.

I would like to support the following challenge with my heart balloon card entry: Word Art Wednesday (Anything Goes #264-265).

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your day with me.  May you have a lovely rest of your week.

Hug A Heart Card Drive 2017

1.16.2017

Hello and welcome!  Thank you for joining me today for the launch of the first 2017 Hug a Heart Card Drive!  The purpose of this card drive, which runs from 1/16/17 to 2/14/17, is to collect handmade heart theme (non-Valentine’s Day) cards such as "Thinking of You", "Hello" or "Just Because" cards to distribute to the Heart Center patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital during next month American Heart Month.

Many patients do not realize they have heart disease and amongst these are patients who are born with defects called congenital heart disease.  Throughout the year, the Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, like many other hospitals, care for many patients with various forms of heart disease.  American Heart Month is especially an important time to not only raise awareness but a time to promote healthy habits and improve patients’ health.  Patients with congenital heart disease are particularly at risk and American Heart Month is a great time to help lift the spirits of these patients who are hospitalized and need major heart surgery or are having a particularly tough time.

I hope that you will be able to join me in this heartfelt cause. The cards you donate will not only brighten a heart patient’s day during Heart Month, but will positively impact that child’s life beyond what you can imagine.

Please see below for more information about congential heart disease and the complete card donation guidelines. Thank you so much for your generosity and gift of cards!

ABOUT CONGENTIAL HEART DISEASE

“Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect and results in sometimes very complex disease that require multiple surgery and prolonged hospitalization. The advance in medical care and surgical techniques have improved survival for many of these patients who are born with various forms of congenital heart disease. However, for some congenital heart disease there is no cure and only palliative procedures are able to be perform which though imperfect gives the patients a chance at life. The success of treatment for patients with congenital heart disease has allowed many to become adults. Despite the success, many patients still require many medications, procedures and revisions improve the prior repair. For some patients, the only option is to undergo a heart transplant. Although Heart Month which is occurs in February focuses on important adult onset disease such as heart attacks and stroke, it is a particularly important month for patients with congenital heart disease as they are also at risk of developing these same disease like any one of us. However, given their congenital heart disease the risk of having an additional acquired heart disease makes it even more important for these patients. We hope that the Hug a Heart Card Drive can give these patients some heart-warming messages.” - Dr. Kan N. Hor (Pediatric Cardiologist at Nationwide Children's Hospital)

UPCOMING BLOG HOP

Please mark your calendar for a blog hop party on February 1st (with prize) to celebrate the Hug a Heart Card Drive and to help raise awareness about heart disease and promote healthier lifestyle changes.
