Hug a Heart Card Drive Blog Hop + American Heart Month

Hello and welcome to my blog!  I am honor to have seven amazing, tender hearted cardmakers joining me today to bring you a fantastic blog hop that you do not want to miss!  Today we are celebrating this month American Heart Month (and YOU) with the Hug a Heart Card Drive.  The purpose of the card drive is to help bring smiles and send heartwarming encouragement to heart patients at Nationwide Children's Hospital during this Heart Month with cheerful handmade "heart" theme cards.  We have lots of creative inspirations planned for you with great prize to win along the way.  So please join us and also be sure to check out the complete details about the card guidelines (with LOTS more prizes to giveaway) over in my blog post HERE or on this page HERE of my blog.

For my part of the hop, I have 2 cards to share.  I will have more cards coming in the next few days (with the first eight on Friday) that you might like to check out :)

My first card is of a fun, cheerful rainbow design with scattering hearts.  This card would be perfect for any age group as well for any occasions.

I begin by creating my A2 size (4.25"x5.5") card base first using the gina K. designs' heavyweight Turquoise Sea cardstock.  Next, I dies cut out clouds with the MFT Stitched Cloud Edges dies and adhered to the base card.  Then, I used the Mama Elephant Rainbow High dies to dies cut out the rainbow and adhere to the stitched clouds background with fun foam.

Next, I randomly adhere on hearts from the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Heart Collage dies set.

The sentiment "sending you smile" is from the Altenew Halftone Smile clear stamp and die combo set.  I first stamped “sending you” onto a piece of black cardstock with Versamark ink and heat embossed with Ranger’s Super Fine White.  Next, I stamped the large “Smile” sentiment with Versamark onto Neenah cardstock, heat embossed with Ranger’s Black Sparkle and watercolored it with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.  Then dies cut it out with the Smile dies from the set and adhere to the card.

For my second card, I combine the rainbow layout of the first card with my pencil sketched "Heart Panda" digi.  I love working with panda images.  Not only they are cute but great for mass production of cards too since there not a whole lot of coloring needed.

I simply add a little highlight to the panda's face with Copic Warm Grey W00, watercolored a light blush with Ranger distress marker Spun Sugar and colored the heart red with Zig Wink of Stella

The "Sending you hugs and wishing you a beautiful day" sentiment is a digi I created using picmonkey, a free online photo editing tool.  If you enjoy creating your own sentiments or enjoy making scrapbook layouts, I encourage you to check picmonkey out.  It's a very simple tool to use and easy to navigate.

This blog hop is all about US celebrating YOU, your beautiful heart and keeping it healthy as can be. By simply making the choice to eat healthier, getting 7-8 hours of sleep per night and make exercise (a-hem guilty) a regular part of your weekly routine, you are already on your way to a healthier, happier heart and a longer, healthier and happier life.

This hop is also to remembering those who don't have the blessing of such healthy hearts, especially children that are born with defects called congenital heart disease.  So this Heart Month (which officially starts on Friday, February 3rd), let us shower them with cards of encouragement!

Even if you only have one card done, please send it in.  That's one child's life that you will be making a HUGE difference in this Heart Month.  Just imagine the huge smile on the child's face when greeted by a sweet card from a total stranger afar.  Your one card will not only let that child knows that someone cares deeply about him or her, but also gives him or her the strength and encouragement to keep on fighting.  Now wouldn't that make you feel good knowing that your one card can make that big of an impact on one child as well the parents?  As a mother myself, nothing bring me greater joy than to see a smile on my children's face.  So please join us in this heartwarming cause and send a card my way by the February 14th deadline date.

How would you like a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to shop over at Simon Says Stamp?  It's one of my most favorite shop to go for all my craft supplies and it is located right here in my beautiful hometown Columbus Ohio!

Thank you so much for joining me today.  We hope the hop will inspire you to come participate with us in this heart-warming cause to brighten a heart patient's day this Heart Month with cheerful handmade cards.  May you have a beautiful rest of your day!

I love your rainbow cards. The "smile" word is so beautiful in the watercolors. The stitched hearts are so pretty. I can remember being in the hospital when I was a child because of double pneumonia and they had a "Craft Lady" that came around and helped you make things when you were feeling up to it. Oh what fun it was.

Christina, your cards are wonderful! I found your blog hop and card drive while commenting on challenge entries. I just made my first card and hope to have several more in the mail by the time you need them. Just two years ago, my mom had heart valve replacement. I am so thankful for the blessing of her renewed health and for the kindness of all the doctors and nurses extended to her and to our family.
