Update: Hug a Heart Card Drive Prize Giveaways Winners

2.28.2017

Hello and welcome everyone!  Thanks for joining me today for the announcement of the Hug a Heart Card Drive prize giveaways winners.  First, I would like to begin by acknowledging and extending my heartfelt gratitude to Donna EllisSue DreesKT Fit KittyEdwina BrownBecky PartanSybrina K. and Lori Kobular for all their help with organizing the launch of the card drive and the blog hop. I truly could not have done this without each and every one who contributed.

What an incredible turnout we had for this Heart Month card drive!  We were able to bring smiles and heartwarming encouragement to 364 heart patients and their families at Nationwide Children's Hospital!  That's more than double from our first card drive in November!  Your generosity has made Heart Month extra special and lightened the hearts of many hospitalized patients.  For many patients, families and staffs the message goes beyond the amazing cards but gave hope and encouragement when they needed it most.  Words cannot truly describe the impact that you have had on these patients.  We would like to thank each and every one of you for the beautiful and inspirational cards and would like to share the power of your generosity from some of the families and staff.

"It was really kind and considerate.  It made me smile" - Kayla, Mother of Grayson.

"It was a really nice surprise. I showed Matthew.  I think it might be more meaningful to know that Matthew has had significant neurological devastation.  For him to look at something and it resonate with him is noteworthy" - Heather, Mother of Matthew.

"I thought they were cute and very thoughtful.  I enjoyed being able to give them out" - Bethany, RN.

"It brightened my day to be able to give them to our families." - Brittany, PCA.

"I thought it was so nice that someone took the time to make those for our patients and families.  They were very detailed and clearly made with love. I hope I will be able to give them out again if more are made in the future." - Julie, RN.

"I passed out the cards last Thursday to all the patient's on the floor.  It literally made most of the parents' day.  They commented on how beautiful they were, and how nice it was for someone to think of them.  I had one parent start to cry she was so touched.  One family loved that her daughter designed the monkey on one of the cards.  Our unit clerk helped me sign them from the Heart Center and she was amazed at how intricate they were." - Stephanie, BSN, RN, CPA, H4A Program Manager.

"I would like to thank each and everyone of you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to create such amazing and vivid cards that are so inspirational. I wish you could see the smiles and the impact your cards have on everyone. For many patients it made their day, while for others it went beyond that" - Dr. Kan Hor, Pediatric Cardiologist at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

It's time to announce the winners of the prize giveaways.  There are four prize packages and the winners were randomly chosen, except for the first prize package which goes to everyone that send in a card.  We also decided to reward 4 instead of 2 winners for the Box of Craft Goodies prize package.  And finally, we added on one additional prize package.  Nancy Kalbach helped made this card drive extra special by getting her three grandchildren Lily, Maura and Declan involved.  We would like to thanks the children with a Special "Young Cardmakers" Recognition Award. :)

You are so generous, Christina! I am happy to see so many familiar names who participated in your dear card drive. Christina, thank you for allowing me to participate, and be a small part of the incredible Heart-felt Journey so many must travel. I'm especially happy for the creators of cards, knowing that their loving kindness is being sent to places they would never have otherwise gone - touching lives of people they otherwise would never meet. THAT'S the true gift, is it not?

Thanks again, Christina, for your sweet friendship, encouragement, and for letting me be a small part of your card drive.
love,

Thanks so much to all who organized this card drive. What an awesome cause and I so enjoyed reading the comments concerning the cards given out. I am glad I was able to join in on it and wish I had made more for it. But perhaps next time around I can make a few more. And, also a double thanks for picking my name as a winner. This is just icing on the cake as I want you to know that I had a wonderful time making those heart cards.

I would be one of those people that passed out the cards and start crying. It made me cry just to hear that one of the parents started crying. I just love that they all loved them and how much they were appreciated. I'm so glad I could participate by making a few cards. Fortunately I heard about Hug A Heart through FT Fit Kitty's blog. What a blessing that the card count was bigger than in November. As the word spreads maybe we can make it bigger.

I see that I won a prize and it's so exciting to see that. Thank you.
