Cards for Little Hearts Card Drive Midway Reminder BLOG HOP + Giveaway

8.01.2017

Hello and welcome to the midway reminder BLOG HOP for the Cards for Little Hearts Card Drive!  I started this card drive last year and the purpose of  Cards for Little Hearts  is to collect handmade cards for the Heart Center staff at Nationwide Children’s Hospital to distribute to children with congenital heart disease and to help lift their spirits while they are hospitalized for major heart surgery or are having a particularly tough time.  If you have not yet participate, the deadline to send in your winter-holiday wishes cards is August 25th.  I am honor to have eight talented designers joining me today to bring you a fantastic blog hop that you do not want to miss!  We have lots of creative inspirations planned for you with lots of awesome prizes to win along the way.  So please come hop along with us and perhaps send in some cards for the card drive as well.  For the complete card guidelines (with LOTS more prizes to giveaway, generously donated by sponsors), please visit my card drive page.

For my part of the hop, I am sharing three cards, featuring the adorable winter birds from the Penny Black's Winter Wonderland set along with a 6 minutes video.  Also in the video, I answered some of the most frequently asked questions about the card's guidelines.  So I hope you will check it out.

WINTER BIRDS HOLIDAY CARDS

How adorable are these winter birds!  To begin my project, I first create my circles template by randomly place 3 different size circle dies onto a piece of A2 size paper and run it through the Sizzix Big Shot machine.  Then use the template to ink blend out perfect circles onto the A2 Copic paper in Hot Mama, Green Apple and Aegean.  If you don’t have any circle dies, you can also create the template using circle punches.

I chose the sentiment "Wishing you lots of smile this holiday season" because one of the card’s guidelines for the card drive is to keep all holiday cards nonreligious theme and no Merry Christmas for your sentiment.  The reason is...there is no way for the nurses to know ahead of time which patients and their family celebrate which holiday.  So by keeping your sentiment simply to winter wishes or happy holiday, it will make it easier for the nurses to distribute out the cards.

If you don’t have any holiday or winter related sentiments, you can also use any everyday, cheerful greetings like Thinking of you or sending you smiles, just to give you some idea.  I have some freebie sentiments here that you can download.   If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Next I colored the birds with Copic Y00, Y02 and Y19.  And for the hat in RV25, RV29 and R49.  Then I use the Nuvo Glitter Drops to pipe out the white fur part of the hat.

For a winter touch, I heat embossed the large snowflake in white.  But for the two small snowflakes, I couldn’t get the detail to come out cleanly.  So I stamp with opaque ink first, let dried and then outline them over with the white Gelly Roll pen.  What a big different a little white pen can do!

TIP:  If you have trouble getting the ink to come out, try rubbing it on your hand and for a nice solid line, tap gently up and down a few times on the area of the image you are trying to draw over until it create a nice little dot. Then just drag on the dot, gently pressure and you’ll get your nice solid white lines.

For the finish touch I sparkle everything, except the birds with the clear Wink of Stella before adhere to the A2 card base.

Since all my card base are in dark colors, I adhere a blank white panel to the inside so it will be easier for the children to read the handwritten messages from the staff.  So please keep the inside of your cards blank.  If you do want to decorate or stamp something on the inside, please make sure to leave plenty of blank spaces for the staff to write a message in.  Like I did here, decorated with just a small peppermint from the Simon Says Stamp Candy Cane Christmas set.

BLOG HOP PRIZE - COMMENT TO WIN
How would you like a chance to win a gift certificate to shop at Simon Says Stamp or Ellen Hutson LLC?  Here's how you can be eligible for the prizes.

Psst!  By the way...Ellen Hutson LLC is donating a $25 gift certificate to one (randomly drawn) lucky person that send in cards for the card drive.  So please send in your cards!

Thank you so much for spending your day with me.  I hope you will be able to come hop along with us in this blog hop for the Cards for Little Hearts card drive and perhaps also send in some cards my way by the August 25th deadline.  Even if you have just one card made, please do send it in because for every card I received that will be ONE MORE child that we will all help bring cheers to this winter holiday season.

Thank you so much and may you have a beautiful and blessed day. Take care.
